Every successful sales campaign requires a plan and organization. If it is well thought out, it can be very successful and fun. The following bullet points are suggestions from other successful campaigns.

  • Enlist key students and adults to run the campaign
  • Establish your financial goal and the number of boxes you will need to sell (roughly $12 profit/box)
  • Set individual or group team goals (shoot 10-20% higher to assure the goal is met)
  • Wear uniforms or some type of identification to show your organization affiliation
  • Maintain customer sales records so that they can be used to grow your customer base each year
  • Share the customer sales records with the team so that these customers can be called upon
  • Have each team member make a list of prospective customers such as relatives, nice neighbors, church members, parent’s co-workers, doctor, dentist, coach, etc.
  • Advertise on the local radio and/or newspaper (see “FORMS” tab for advertising guidelines)
  • Split the sales territory up and assign different areas to each group
  • Role play a sales call so your team knows how to be an effective salesperson
    • identify yourself and your organization
    • tell them what your organization is doing
    • tell them that you are selling top quality red grapefruit from Texas, navel oranges from California, D’Anjou pears and Fuji apples from the Pacific Northwest as well as a nice variety pack of all four fruits
    • tell the customer the citrus is picked and packed to order and is fresher than what can be purchased in a grocery store
    • the fruit is very reasonably priced
    • when you will deliver the fruit
    • they will be helping a good cause and you would appreciate their help
  • Sell to businesses; the Festival of Fruit variety pack is a great office snack or corporate Christmas gift
  • Set up specific time periods when teams go out and sell (generally 2-3 hour maximum)
  • Reward the 2-3 hour sales period with a pizza party or after goals are met
  • Maintain a chart or other visual guide to show progress being made on the fundraiser
  • Make a fun bet or challenge with your team to create motivation
  • Offer prizes for top sales teams or individuals
  • Provide a sales receipt to each customer (see “FORMS” tab for sales receipt to print)
  • Order 10-20 extra boxes for late comers
  • Insert a printed thank-you/storage conditions note in each box you deliver(see “FORMS” tab for thank-you to print)
